you know, those flying monkeys are actually kinda cute...

so yesterday, i went and watched this.

Wicked was wicked, and i can see why Garrison says plays are better than movies. it's cause they are. especially if you're in the literal front row - so close, that if you stuck your foot out you'd kick the conductor in his back, so close that you can see the performers' spit coming out of their mouths when they sing.

not exactly like that, but you get the picture.

yep, it's a great experience. so if anyone actually reads this, get offa your computer and go watch a Broadway play.

observations:

- Nessa, or the Wicked Witch of the East has some nice socks. i've never appreciated those socks whilst watching the old movie.

-dude, Elphaba was freaking miserable throughout the whole play. she was like never happy. not once. ever.

"gimme mah sister's shoes, BITCH."

- THE WIZARD IS ELPHABA'S FATHER!!!!! OH MAN. finna get Maury up in here to do some DNA testing. i'm never gonna see The Wizard of Oz the same way again... oh, i hope i didn't spoil anything for any of you.

- i was actually in the presence of a real live famous person, Patty Duke! OH MY GOD Patty, i saw you as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker! upon seeing her, i almost called out, "HOLY FRICK IT'S THE BLIND GIRL!" with all due respect of course.

She's a bit older now.

- okay, MVP of the play was the conductor man. i don't even know his name and i'm kinda mad! i wonder where my Playbill went....well, he's tall, skinny, bald, wears glasses. ANYONE KNOW SOME BROADWAY CONDUCTORS WHO FIT THIS DESCRIPTION? (hella of them, i'm sure) because dude, lemme tell you. he's apparently memorized every single line of dialog/song lyric in the whole play. while conducting, he would sing along to the songs. when not conducting he would mouth off the lines. i honestly believe that this man could do the whole freaking play, BY HIMSELF. i mean, he knows everybody's part!

why does he even have a score in front of him? EPIC CONDUCTOR MAN NEEDS NO SCORE!

he's even more epic than this man.

so yeah, that just made my day. :DDDDDD

  1. I have to agree. Any live visual performance is utterly superior to simple recordings and movies. Like seeing a band live, or an orchestra perform. You can notice all the flaws and hear all the mistakes, see the performers' facial expressions... it is truly an amazing experience. The only plays I've seen are The Sound of Music and Into the Woods, and they are both brilliant. I must go see Wicked one day. :).
